Funded Teachers, Built Futures: A Legacy of Learning
In rural Guinea, many children walk miles to reach schools without teachers, books, or basic supplies. Guinnovation’s “Fund a Teacher” initiative helped change that — by hiring educators, equipping classrooms, and supporting communities that believed in education as a shared legacy.
What We Achieved
- 4 teachers were hired in 2017 to serve 240 children across four villages in Lelouma
- 97% retention rate in the first year — a testament to community commitment
- 480 books, notebooks, and uniforms were distributed to students
- Capacity-building training was led by government supervisors to improve exam outcomes
- Ongoing support sustained teacher salaries, classroom repairs, and student access to clean water
Why It Mattered
In 2022, only 17% of Guinean students passed the National Sixth Grade exam — a critical milestone for continuing state-subsidized education. By investing in teachers, Guinnovation helped students gain the tools to thrive and communities reclaim ownership of their children’s futures.
Legacy & Next Steps
The “Fund a Teacher” initiative laid the foundation for Guinnovation’s broader education strategy. It proved that with community collaboration and diaspora support, sustainable change is possible and scalable.
